The Department of Basic Education has announced that applications for phase two teacher assistant jobs are now open following the successful phase one which ended in April.
In a statement on Sunday (September 26), the Department said applications for the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI) will close on October 3, 2022.
287,000 opportunities available BEEI is part of the President’s Youth Employment Initiative. In phase two, BEEI seeks to provide employment and training opportunities in the education sector to 287,000 unemployed youth.
Of these, around 192,000 will be Education Assistants and approximately 95,000 will be General School Assistants. Successful applicants will be placed in schools for five months, from November 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023.
Young people between the ages of 18 and 35, who are not currently in education/training, or who do not receive any form of government subsidy, as well as youth with disabilities and women, are eligible and are encouraged to apply. this enriching experience, the Department said.
Candidates who are selected for placement will have the opportunity to receive training in various skills that will prepare them for future employment opportunities.
Teacher Assistant jobs in Department of Basic Education According to the Department of Basic Education, the following teacher assistant jobs are available:
Education Assistant – Curriculum. Education Assistant – TIC/e-Cadres. Education Assistant – Reading Champions. General School Assistant – Child and Youth Care Worker. General Assistant School – Handyman (registration not required). General Assistant to the School – Sports and Enrichment Agent (registration not required). To qualify for Education Assistant opportunities, the applicant must have passed matriculated English. Having an NQF Level 4, 6 and 7 qualification certificate will be an added advantage.
To qualify as an Infrastructure Support School General Assistant (Handyman) or Sports and Enrichment Agents, the applicant is not required to have an enrollment certificate. However, business certificates will be an added bonus.
To work in the educational setting, you must have a good ability to work with individuals and within groups, have good communication skills, be a good listener, and have an interest in academics, the Department said.

To apply for teacher assistant jobs, you need to register at sayouth.mobi, create a profile, and apply there. All applications will be online and walk-ins will not be allowed in schools, according to the Department.
